A role-playing game you walk through
Pick a hero, give them a look of your own and set out from a camp in the maple woods. Every area is open country to walk with a tap, the stick or the keys, and you cross into the next at its edge. When you meet a foe, the fight happens right where you stand, turn by turn.
- Pick a hero
- A Warrior, a Mage, an Archer, a Cleric or a Rogue, female or male. Build, skin, hair and outfit are yours to choose, and you pick the abilities you learn from your class's tree.
- Fight where you stand
- Engage a foe and you strike first; let one catch you and it does. Each area's keeper warns you a turn before its big blow.
- A life between fights
- Fish every river, mine, fell trees, cook, smelt ore and make your own gear. Your home grows from a tent to a manor.
- A leaf to follow
- A golden maple leaf finds you on your first walk. Tap the goal line at the top and it leads you to what comes next.
From the game
Every picture here is the game itself, as it looks when you play.

The climb
Each area on the way up has a keeper. Win fights there and finish one of its quests, and the keeper will face you. Free one and the river runs a little clearer.
-
Camp in the maple woods
Stalls, a forge, a cauldron and your tent. Old Ranger Silas has a word for you before you set out.
-
Maple Forest
Red and gold maples, sprites and wild boar, and a second lake with a bench to sit by.
Keeper: Old Mossback
-
Frozen Lake
A vast frozen lake, the wind howling across the ice, thawing at one corner into floes and reeds.
Keeper: the Frost Giant
-
Storm Peak
A jagged summit crackling with storm-light, and a cold tarn under a fall from a snowy crag.
Keeper: the Storm Drake
-
And more on the way up, each with a keeper of its own.
-
The World Tree
A maple vast enough to hold up the sky. The river begins at a spring among its roots.
At its summit: The Withering
Off the trail
Towns along the way have shops, a smith, people to get to know and a home you can buy and furnish.
- Willowmere
- A green valley west of camp, open from the start: a lake under a waterfall, willows and a dock.
- Mapleshire
- A village with an inn, a duck pond and cottage gardens.
- Driftmarsh
- Gardens in reed fences, with marigolds, beans and cranberries.
- Skyreach
- Snow-capped stone walls round kale, leeks and an alpine rock garden.
- Timberhold
- Wattle fences, ferns, mushrooms on a log and a bee skep among the herbs.
Past the World Tree
The story ends at the summit. The game keeps going, with more places to open, each with a foe of its own.
- The Hollow Roots
- The Starfall Expanse
- The Ember Wastes
- The Sunken Abyss
- Tidewater Cove
- The Celestial Canopy
Then a Daily Bounty with a new foe every day, Boss Rush, Hard Mode, and Ascension, which wakes the keepers again in a stronger world.
What's new
Wanderleaf grows a little with every build.
-
Build 382
When you make a new hero you now choose female or male on the first screen, and nothing is picked for you. The townsfolk with women's names are drawn as women now, with long hair, braids, curls, a bun or a ponytail.
-
Build 380
Every hairstyle has been redone. Hair now covers the head the way hair does, with a real hairline: Short has a swept fringe, Long falls past the shoulders and frames the face, Curly is curls all round, and the Mohawk stands up from the scalp instead of sinking into it. And the bag is easier to use: potions can be drunk straight from Supplies, brews and elixirs are kept there until you want them, and on a narrow phone the brewing list and the Keepsakes tab no longer run into each other.
-
Build 379
Every skill now looks like itself in a fight. A Warrior's Whirlwind spins, Power Strike comes down from overhead, and Fortify braces behind a shield instead of swinging at the foe. A Mage raises a Fireball in both hands and throws it trailing embers, and Frost Nova leaves a ring of frost. Arrows trail sparks and Rain of Arrows falls on the foe; a Cleric's Smite brings down a pillar of light; a Rogue's Twin Fangs strikes twice in a green cloud. Heals lift both arms in rising light, and a foe that is burning, chilled, poisoned or stunned shows it for as long as it lasts.
